Changed Leaderboard Prize money mid month

I was working hard to climb the leaderboard and was on track for $200 but mid month they decide to cut the prize pool in half so that you have to top 2 to get more than $20. It was fun while lasted but I do not recommend as they made it impossible to make actual money. I feel taken advantage of and I would like the leaderboard reverted to how it was for the first 2 weeks.

Arbitrary constraints

The app gives you 5 seconds to read, process, and think of a counter point and you only have a minute to respond on a very complex, layered, and dense topic. That’s not very honest or helpful. And also, why does it pick topics for you? I got a sports topic and I don’t care about sports unless I actually participate in those sports. At least give an option for a longer debate format and an option for picking the topic. Not for RNG and the arbitrary timer format. This app doesn’t help thinking. It’s more like a game. It doesn’t teach people how to talk. It just teaches people how to jump around and reply. Anyone can do that easily. If you’re serious about dialogue, skip this app.

TL;DR: I would give this app a -1 star if it were possible.

How the app works

Most of the Ai say the same stuff over and over again and there’s barely and real people to debate.there also isn’t enough time to rebuke or make an argument, I always lose because I’m stopped halfway through my argument.

Needs work

Decent app but the AI needs a lot of work. It will straw man a lot and that makes the debates get off topic. It also says things that are easily disproven, but it'll just repeat itself and that makes the arguments also get off track. And then at the end the judge grades you both poorly for being "too repetitive" when you kept having to correct the AI.

Also, how the AI judge thinks about evidence is kind of confusing to me. You can state a fact like "most of X are Y" like stating a majority. But it's not counted as evidence even though you could google the claim and it's true that a majority of X and are Y. It's kind of hard to find and cite extremely specific data or examples when you have 45 seconds and you don't wanna be dishonest or wrong.

I also feel like the AI seems like a very cliche version of the philosophers. Obviously I know they can't dig up the philosophers themselves. But my point is that often times the AI could easily have made a better argument but it sticks to quoting things from the philosopher, even if it's not serving them.

They should add a mode that's longer

I like it but I needs some updates….

Like I said, I like it, but I need some updates. Like 45 seconds just to write out your opinion is not enough time by far. I think the least should be a minute and 30 at LEAST. Also, the thinking time should be longer and they should be spending most of their money towards advertising and marketing with popular debaters to get more people on the app since you can’t even debate anyone because no one else is on this app. Other than that, it’s very well designed and I like the feel and look of the app and it was a very good idea.

Innovative

I like the idea behind this app. It grow debate skills which is a great thing.

Fun

Its a cool app, very creative!

Data Leech

Holy cow, they ask for location a selfie real name the whole 9, it’s absolutely nuts for what it is. I forgot your entire gallery, no live selfie cam option. This app will 100% be a cause of you getting random calls, they have to be selling data as their primary purpose. Do not support this app, or listen to the PR team response to this review. 1/5 stars.

Has potential but needs some tweaks

The opponents’ message doesn’t come through until after you respond. That’s the biggest bug. Also, the evaluation can go a little farther in figuring out the stronger argument.

TrendSpark Review

It’s a fun app to spend your free time. It increases your debate skills and increases the size of son’s massive cake. Linda + Son cake = holy grail of cakes.

New and fun

I have been using this app for a little bit and it has already helped me with my quick thinking and my ability to debate on my feet. It’s an overall fun thing to do even if I’m not that good at debating, I can still spend some time with friends or have fun by myself. I like the direction where the app is headed and I hope to see new improvements and additions.

really nice

I’ve been using this app for a few weeks now, and I’m honestly really impressed with it. I love the UI, which makes it really easy navigate the app and see your options in terms of debate. I’m someone who does speech and debate, and so I’ve found that this app is really useful for building my argumentation and rhetoric. It’ll also tell you at the end why or why not your arguments won or lost, and something I like is that it’s pretty critical for your performance, so even if you’re a top tier debater you can still get some good feedback from it. I love the touch of being able to debate historical figures and engage with different kinds of people, like arguing vs someone that questions the principle and philosophy behind an action vs someone that looks into more practical impacts. Additionally, the team of the app themselves have been really quick to respond and open to suggestions, and I’m excited to see where this app goes.

Fails every standard

How? As a 17 year old teenager, it blocked me from the app. Highly disappointing. This also means kids who are looking to enhance debating skills are banned from this app. Do not get.

You don’t actually make any money, debate mostly with A.I, but it’s very energizing intellectually

I’m a quick witted person who is fairly fast at back-and-forth. I’ve won every single match, but there’s never humans around.
Also, you don’t actually make any cash from it. As it is, there no way to convert points into cash. So it’s ALWAYS with A.I. It is a very good mental agility and sharpness exercise. If you enjoy stimulating your brain, just don’t expect huge gains.
I’m still addicted to the quick matches and I think this will expand in the future beyond this MVP. I definitely will keep at it to get some prizes and status early.

Possible AI Biases and Poor Format

This will be mostly about the political side of this app. If you are interested in the other uses of this app than this wont be very relevant as I haven’t tried those parts yet.

Giving a total of 10 seconds to formulate a response in your head with nuance is mostly not what real debate entails. Then giving 45 seconds not only to articulate that response in an efficient way (to meet the time restraints) but also type out a response that includes a rebuttal, expands on points, and provides evidence is nearly impossible.

The AI not only avoids nuance completely, but gets stuck on one topic out of many that you may bring up (If you can even write out multiple points in the allotted time).

As most of AI has proven to do, the bias towards left leaning ideals is quite obvious in the political debates, (Which is just wrong for a debating app) and mostly rewards more left leaning ideals.

The format of the matchmaking is also poor, you shouldn’t search for a match, then have to take a position on something random if you want to debate certain political viewpoints that are. There should be options to chose multiple different debate points that is set aside from the random points in which you have to argue.

Plus modern political discourse is not about taking an absolute affirmative or negative. Nuance is the root of all critical thinking. While in formal debate that might be helpful, its hard to properly debate an AI that knows multiple talking points for a strong negative when the user is forced to argue a strong affirmative in which they might be more neutral.

In my honest opinion, this should have been tested more before getting put out. As of the time of writing this review it seems that there is way too much to improve on and it is very sloppily done. Doesn’t mean it’s unusable and doesn’t mean users cant make good use of it to improve their debating skills and share ideas.

Civil discourse is good for society so please enjoy learning and debating.

Overall rating if i were to go out of 100 would be around a 23/100.

Forgive any grammar mistakes I may have made. <3

I don’t like the time limit to answer

I mean I understand getting things out fast in a concise manner, but one doesn’t always work like that. ESPECIALLY when the ai can and did say SO MUCH MORE than I can and did. I basically get a sentence while they get a paragraph. 🤣🤣

If you want to improve your debating skills, this is a great tool

Not great

As a person with two bachelors degrees, one being in political science, I feel particularly sufficient in greeting this sort of app after several debates. First of all when you debate the AI, it goes off-topic all the time. Despite this, the after debate review often lies towards the AI. The amount of time allotted per section is very poor, 45 seconds to write an opinion on a nuance political issue is matching of our current system where we want people to have an opinion on everything without being nuanced. These are complicated issues and especially when writing you need more times than 45 seconds for an opening opinion. I think debates should probably be age bracketed, or at least by option. I may be egotistical, but I with my experience don’t feel like debating an 18-year-old who hasn’t even graduated high school and has not had the time to properly develop opinions on these issues. Lastly, the 18-year-old was the only person I was able to find to debate, the app is dead or dying, and doesn’t have sufficient participants to debate. There are some in app glitches too, for example, when you’re done, debating the AI you have to click the button quit on the top Left, but you’re not able to scroll to actually tap it. You can only see it but it’s not interactive. You have to reload the app reload the debate and then you can quit just open a new debate. Huge waste of time.

This is the only time I’ve ever wrote a review for anything.

Not very good

When I was debating, it was against an AI in the main thing with it was that every single time I had tried to stir the topic a little bit towards the main topic. It would go back towards a different one and then a rated mind saying I was repetitive even though I was trying to push different sub topics but the AI kept trying to stick to something that I already disproved the app could definitely get better and I could definitely see this work out better but the thing is I think the AI just didn’t work that well. I would love to see this app in like 1 to 2 years

Fun

I enjoyed being able to debate AI philosophers I thought that was a really cool feature. I also liked the fact I could debate my friends 1 on 1.
