What's New in TX LEO REF

Statute text is now in the app. Every Penal Code and Transportation Code offense now carries the verbatim text of the section as enacted — 240 sections in all — formatted so the (a)/(1)/(A) structure reads the way it does in the published code. BROWSE BY CHAPTER The Penal and Traffic tabs now open to chapter cards instead of one long list. Tap Chapter 19 for homicide, Chapter 30 for burglary and trespass, Chapter 545 for the rules of the road. Transportation Chapter 545 breaks down further into its own subchapters — Right-of-Way, Speed Restrictions, Turning and Signals, Stopping and Parking, Railroad Crossings. Search still runs across everything and skips the chapter level entirely, so if you know the charge you never have to guess where it lives. 65 NEW SECTIONS Penal Code: attempt, conspiracy, solicitation, solicitation of a minor, child grooming, criminal instruments, unlawful tracking device, bail jumping, contraband in a correctional facility, animal cruelty, dog fighting, and six more controlled substance sections. Transportation Code: driving on an improved shoulder, fleeing or eluding, under-18 restrictions, wireless device use in a school crossing zone and on school property, stop and yield sign violations, railroad crossings, window tint, brake and turn signal lamps, parking, duty to render aid, striking an unattended vehicle, and financial responsibility. OFFENSE LEVELS VERIFIED Every offense level in both codes was checked line by line against the Texas Legislature's published text, current through the 89th Legislature. Where a grade had drifted from the statute it was corrected, including several that read a full class high or low. Enhancement ladders were rebuilt where the law had changed underneath them. APPLE WATCH The location screen now shows city, state and ZIP beneath the street, your coordinates with GPS accuracy, and a live compass tape reading your bearing against every cardinal point. User reviews

Great app for LEO

As a law enforcement officer, I believe TX LEO is a very useful and effective app for officers working in Texas. What I like most about the app is that it puts a large amount of important legal information in one place, making it easier to quickly find the information I need while working in the field.

The Texas Penal Code, Health and Safety Code, Transportation Code, Houston municipal ordinances, case law, and DWI investigation resources are all valuable tools for an officer. I especially like the fact that the app is designed for field use rather than feeling like a complicated legal textbook. Being able to quickly look up an offense, review the required elements, check applicable penalties, or research a case-law decision could be extremely helpful during a shift.

I also think the offline capability is a major benefit. Officers cannot always depend on having a strong internet connection, so having important information available without internet access makes the app much more practical.
