DUDE WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY SO MUCH
That app is good it's just locked behind a pay wall. I'm sorry but it is unimaginably annoying how I either pay 149.99 for a lifetime or I pay 50 bucks a year. That is so stupid especially because I want to learn Japanese but every single app is locked behind some sort of pay wall like literally. I did the first five lessons and they boom you need premium for all the rest like this is so stupid only get this app if you want to pay for more than five lessons

I signed in with Apple and in my account it said ‘Inscribido con Apple’. That is not correct Spanish and made me question the quality of the localization. I deleted the app right away.
Amazing
Honestly I used many MANY other apps to learn Japanese’s but this one is amazing if you memorize well the grammar and can pronounce well! I recommend this to a beginner level honestly!!!
A bit sloppy
The idea is great but the clips are too short, I’m assuming they get away with copyright like this, and there are English clips instead of French. It feels like it was made in a rush, not well thought through or quality controlled
Good for Japanese, Ok for Korean
I think the app worked well for learning Japanese. It has been frustrating for learning Korean though. You start a lesson by learning a word and then there are examples of the word during the lesson but they are often conjugated or modified versions of the word, none of which were explained. So not only are you trying to memorize the word, you have to deal with surprise conjugations that were never explained. Either use the exact word in the examples or explain the conjugations before showing them. This happens constantly when trying to learn Korean on the app and I have ended my subscription to go to an app which actually explains such concepts. This was not really an issue I encountered when learning Japanese through the app though.

Needs Work
Reaching the end of the 3 day trial - in two minds whether I try and continue. Cost in UK is around £44 per year, which is pretty standard - but the app is nowhere near as well put together as other apps looking for a similar amount. Words and relevant translations appear in the wrong order and so are incorrect, many of the clips are different to the sentence being shown and on the test section, many of the ‘what do you hear’ tests simply don’t work. I want to continue because the concept is genuinely fantastic, but the quality is severely lacking for the cost.

User Friendly
An awesome app that makes learning a language fun and enticing!
Perhaps add Tagalog
I love this app, it’s very effective. I would love to see Tagalog be added in the future, for example, you could use Ang lihim ni Anasandra for the lessons, I’ve wanted to watch that show for so long but sadly don’t understand it
Not great for Japanese
The automated pronunciations are often off, the word you’re supposed to be learning often changes pronunciations or definitions based off of tense or conjugation without further explanation, the word you’re supposed to be learning often isn’t even spoken in the videos presented to you, and sometimes subtitles or definitions are missing altogether. Personally, if your goal is to learn Japanese, know that this is just an okay supplement and should not be your focus. But you’re probably better off spending your money elsewhere.

My first review of an app
This is the first time I have ever felt like I MUST write a review on an app. I have tried classes, duo lingo, red note and many other methods to learn languages. My goal is to become fluent in 3-4 languages. My native is English and mandarin is what I wanted to learn after Spanish. The Umi assistant is super helpful for me to learn new words. Also the videos are super engaging. They leverage the familiarity of short form videos to help you get different phrases. It’s great! I couldn’t recommend this more.

Awesome!
I love how real clips are played so you can hear native speakers. So many apps are robot-voiced and then when you hear someone speaking in real life it’s hard to tell what they’re saying!
Too unreliable
I love this little app and have been using it to learn French for a year now. Fantastic concept.
But it’s becoming more frequently buggy. Currently it has videos that don’t play, are in English not French, stop halfway through, or have dialogue that doesn’t match the words on screen.
In the past it would have some of these bugs and they would get fixed pretty quickly but every time the app is updated, they return. And now there are more different types of bugs and they seem not to be being fixed.
I would love to support the small team developing this app but the disadvantages of using it are starting to outweigh the advantages. Might be better for other languages, though.

Not recommending.
So i see ad's saying 'hey umi is so good! Its free!' So for starters this app even though its free to download it is basically NOT FREE there are barely any sessions available to people who use the free subscription offer and i think you should change it even just a little to make it like so free subscription users can do all or half the sessions but have ads and the premium users have no ads. Sorry but this app is not good. I would like a response please.

If the app allowed you to learn your own words then it would be useful but assuming everyone is at level 1 and needs to learn the same words is a big assumption.

I’d like this app a lot better if it didn’t force me to do a free trial in order to access the app itself… I’ll be deleting it very very shortly after writing this review, I’m not doing a free trial just to access an app.

Can’t log in. It definitely captures your Google login but the app freezes. Reinstalling didn’t work. Going back to other app. 👎
