Pretty solid

I’ve been using this app for two weeks, and it’s worked a lot better than other screen time apps. I think the main thing is just having other people to do it with you, actually makes you follow through. I just wish you didn’t have to pay extra money to have additional insights, and to block more than two apps, but otherwise it’s great.

Okay

Tolle Idee, aber es gibt zwei Haken. Erstens man brauch genug Freunde um die App sinnvoll nutzen zu können und zweitens kommen meine Freunde in die App nicht rein. Bei ihnen lädt sie immer ewig. Daher zwei Sterne Abzug. Schade

Nerviger Einstieg, unklare Kosten/ Nutzen/ Funktionen

Very innovative and effective screen time control

I love the social aspect of Useless. Having to request more time from your friends makes you question whether you actually need to unlock the app right now. It has cut my screen time significantly. In my friend group we call the collection of requests with our selfies the "wall of shame", which makes it way more fun than any other screen time app I know :) Bugs get fixed super quickly too.

FAQ

What does Useless do?

Useless is a screen time control app that uses social pressure from friends to help you limit your phone usage. Instead of you controlling your limits, your friends do, making it harder to bypass your own rules and reclaim your time.

How do friends control my screen time?

When you hit your daily app limits, the app blocks access. If you need more time, you must ask your friends by recording a video or taking a photo explaining why. Your friends then vote to approve or deny your request.

Is Useless free to use?

Useless requires an active subscription to access all features. However, a free trial is available for new users, and inviting friends can also grant free access. All core features described are part of the subscription.

What kind of phone is compatible with Useless?

The app description mentions it uses Apple's Screen Time API, indicating it is designed for iOS devices. It is not specified if an Android version is available.

What are the benefits of using Useless?

The primary benefit is reclaiming significant amounts of daily screen time, with users reportedly reclaiming 2+ hours per day. It works by leveraging social accountability, which is presented as more effective than traditional app blockers that can be easily bypassed.
