What's New in Useless

1.2.5

July 15, 2026

- Block adult content with one switch in Settings, using Apple's built in web filter. - Block Now in Friends mode can now be unlocked one app at a time, or all at once, with a friend’s approval. - Your requests now stay up to date. See approvals, declines, reactions, new replies, and a live countdown for unlocked time. - On the latest iOS, tapping Request Time opens useLess right away, without the extra notification tap. We also made blocking more reliable after updates and daily resets. Thanks for using useLess. Reply in the app any time, we read everything.

User reviews

Blocked every app except for the one I specified

Overall, the app is quite good, and very useful. I’ve been able to reduce my screentime by about 50% just in the last few weeks of using it. Today, however, the app blocked all of my apps until midnight (including UseLess itself) EXCEPT for the one that I wanted it to block, Instagram. I never indicated that I wanted to impose this limit. I’ve tried deleting the app, but the restrictions remain and there’s no way to turn them off in the Screentime settings. This is a serious bug, and it’s making me not want to redownload the app. Please address this.

The app is very buggy

Any action on the app takes forever to load.

Alright

I don’t like it how you have to pay to cut your screen time there must be better ways .edit: worth it it works very well and I hate it because it always works

Response from developer

We hear you! Great news we just launched a free version so you can use UseLess without paying. Update the app and give it a shot!

Beast Mode

Supposedly released “Beast Mode” so you can no longer edit your screen time at any time but you can still activate and deactivate Beast Mode whenever you feel like which in turn means you can edit your screen time whenever you want without your friends knowing which renders this app completely useless( no pun intended). Who is making these decisions???

Please fix this! I bought the one year subscription for me and my daughter and feel like I wasted my money!

Response from developer

Hey, thanks for letting us know. We are really sorry for this behaviour, could you reach out to us via mail or directly in the UseLess app, so we can get this resolved directly. Apologies for the bug. Best, David

Not helpful

This app doesn’t work, it also didn’t send the request to my friend because they didn’t get a notification so they texted me that they didn’t get a notification when I told them so that was really disappointing. I was really excited to use this app and it did not go well. I really hope this helps.

FAQ

What does Useless do?

Useless is a screen time control app that uses social pressure from friends to help you limit your phone usage. Instead of you controlling your limits, your friends do, making it harder to bypass your own rules and reclaim your time.

How do friends control my screen time?

When you hit your daily app limits, the app blocks access. If you need more time, you must ask your friends by recording a video or taking a photo explaining why. Your friends then vote to approve or deny your request.

Is Useless free to use?

Useless requires an active subscription to access all features. However, a free trial is available for new users, and inviting friends can also grant free access. All core features described are part of the subscription.

What kind of phone is compatible with Useless?

The app description mentions it uses Apple's Screen Time API, indicating it is designed for iOS devices. It is not specified if an Android version is available.

What are the benefits of using Useless?

The primary benefit is reclaiming significant amounts of daily screen time, with users reportedly reclaiming 2+ hours per day. It works by leveraging social accountability, which is presented as more effective than traditional app blockers that can be easily bypassed.
