VodaPay Review
At first glance the app appears to be easy to use and full of useful and informative features. However, no matter what you try use the app for, its sole aim is to sell you products and services (anything to make Vodacom some money).
The app does the bare minimum to provide easy assistance, it is all aimed towards getting you to buy something. Disguised as a customers aid but really it’s an over the top ad campaign you have to endure to access or get info on features you are already paying for.
If you simply want to get information,
details or explanations regarding your package you will have at least 5 products pushed at you before you get some vaguely appropriate feedback.
Unless you want to buy something, you’re better off googling your issue or phoning a Vodacom. Even the “FAQ” on the app focus on new products and how to purchase them with barely any of the questions about your account or assistance with it.
Business is business, I understand that, but respect your existing customers enough to at least try provide useful information or standard services without showing you only care about selling more stuff and don’t care at all about their experience.

Why do we get forced to use this app
Why do we get forced to use this “wallet” app? It isn’t user friendly. It’s slow! And hundreds of useless notifications about Vodabucks deals that are impossible to use. The only reason I have this app is because Vodacom forces us to use their Wallet app. I have a bank thank you and on an iPhone, I already have a wallet app. Oh and if you try and skip this app with USSD, then keeps reminding you to use the app. I have been a Vodacom contract customer for more than 20 years now. When will they actually make things easier to use? And please don’t recommend “Tobi“….

Unnecessary app
I used to use the My Vodacom app every time I needed to buy data or check my balances. Vodapay is a useless and unnecessary feature, since nowadays almost every device and operating system offers their own wallet app. Now Vodacom has gotten rid of My Vodacom and shoved it into the Vodapay app, forcing users to download this nonsense, removing the convenience of the original My Vodacom app in the hopes that users will use the unwanted Vodapay features.
Along with this, the app regularly logs you out and you have to enter a pin to log back in, and sometimes you also need to wait for an OTP. Oftentimes I start driving with gps, only to drive a short distance before realising that I don’t have any data left and have to buy. The unnecessary complex sign-in process makes it extremely dangerous to do without pulling over and wastes a lot of time.

Offers are not available
I’ve had a few experiences now where I tried to purchase an offer to get an error message about “something went wrong on our side please try again later” then that offer is not available when I try again later. Very frustrating. And can’t reorder from transaction history.
Cannot log in my vodapay account
When i input my mobile number, I get an error: “There seems to be an error on our side, please try again later”. When I try logging in on other devices it logs in just fine what could be the problem
Worst Interface and User Experience
I’m 30 years old. I’m into IT and video editing. The interface and customer experience is extremely bad.
You took a solid and easy to use app, and changed it into a non personal cluttered information overload.
Majority of people just want to buy voice / data and other bundles. It is almost impossible to do it as quick as always with all the unnecessary screens and additional options. I’m sure the average everyday user of this app will NOT find this change pleasing.

App not user friendly
The app is slow and not user friendly honestly.
1. It has separated the vodabucks from airtime and
2. certain purchases come with ONLY vodabucks however the app doesn’t describe this to give guidance. You’ll have airtime but when you must pay it says your airtime is zero balance.
3. When buying products there isn’t enough description for each item - if you’re purchasing Vodacom voice, you don’t know whether it’s all network or just Vodacom to Vodacom
4. Question: Where are all the Vodacom app specials we used to get? My town specials, everyday special for 24hours, 7 days specials?
5. As if we’re not being overcharged on all products you bring us an app we can’t even operate within seconds - the app is VERY VERY SLOW!!!! It was literally built to say ‘Oops something went wrong”

Pretty great app
Even though the company has designer clothing prices , the app is pretty cool. It has everything you need . Don’t expect like any cool deals but good service is what the app is for . End of day it’s still a luxury telecom company so you ain’t really running away from those expensive stuff on used but you can get cheap bus fares 😐 dunno why they don’t invest back to bring cheap data. Went off track, great app overall.

Can’t buy data on app when data is depleted
For the past few months a few of us are having the same problem. When our data runs out we can’t get into the app to purchase more data. It is only once we have WiFi that we can access app and purchase data again.
Never had that problem with the old Vodacom app.
Also the app uses a lot of data which the old app never used any at all to check balances

Simplify data costs
I don’t understand why one can’t use airtime to buy data on Voda pay. You need to simplify the customer experience on the app and also simplify your data value proposition through your multi channels. You have different prices for the same amount of data and as a client have to navigate your various channels to find the cheapest. Why is it data cheaper through a call centre when the cost through that channel is higher than the digital one. Your app is clunky

Very poor experience unfortunately
A UI is like a joke, if you have to explain it, you did it poorly.
I appreciate from a share price point of view VodaPay’s objective is selling and adoption. From a functional point of view, I just want to see the available data on my various numbers. Since my primary number is not a Vodacom number, I am guessing the auth is failing more often than not, subsequently not showing my numbers. So what I could do on MyVodacom in 30seconds, I have not been able to do on VodaPay in an hour.
Same goes for the silly recharge screen where one always has to re-enter the beneficiary number, every single time, not keeping the last or offering previous 3.

Can’t pay Vodacom Bills
My question is why did you guys have to change what was working seamlessly when it comes to us paying for our accounts?! With VodaPay this has proven to be a losing battle because each time I want to pay my bill, it says “there seems to be a problem on our side”. And when I retry, as one of the options right after that message “there seems to be a problem on our side”, it just says my account does not exist.
I also see that I am not the only person who’s having this problem. I mean, we have been paying using EFT for song long and it’s only now with this VodaPay app which is just a failure to say the least, when it comes to us as clients paying our bills.
I’ve even “Chat with a human”, and guess what?! They also don’t know what to do as they said they are well aware of this issue.
Please get this app working because our Vodacom Bills aren’t being paid as we would want them, as before on the Vodacom App… and not this VodaPay failure.

Mr Masud
Excellent app for the excellent network in South Africa, Vodacom is the best network which provides best quality voice calls, speedy internet access & best offer deals on all things that a customer requires while using the network etc. High five to the best network in South Africa, I have been using Vodacom network for the past 19 years now. Hats off to Vodacom!

I have been using the app for as long as I can remember with the same card since day one. I have been trying to purchase data via the app for the past two days and it won’t let me. I delete and re-download the app, but nothing.
NHZA
This app is cumbersome and not user friendly, it’s finicky in its design and doesn’t play nicely when I pay my monthly bill with a saved FNB card, two tries is required to pay the bill, this is every month, why doesn’t the V-bucks automatically get banked by the app, I’ve lost V-bucks in numerous occasions due to missing the time window to bank v-bucks , Furthermore because v-bucks expire , this platform will struggle to rival competing platforms such as ebucks , this is a major missed opportunity for Vodacom, suggestions: clean the interface , make it simpler and less of gimmicky , flashing banner affair , make it that V bucks don’t expire , just those 2 things will go a long way to customer engagement and retention

Not user friendly
Are the developers actually proud of this app?
This is one of the worst apps I’ve ever used in my life. The layout is not user friendly at all. There is no clear distinction when making purchases, I.e if you want to purchase data and press the purchase icon, it only gives you the option of purchase through wallet or bank card, you have to somehow manoeuvre your way through the app to eventually buy the data using existing airtime. I also used my vodabucks to make a purchase on the store, I cannot find the voucher anywhere in the app. I simply cannot stand the interface at all and I hate that we were forced to migrate to the Vodapay app.

Do not buy vouchers on Vodapay
If you enjoy sitting in the phone being shuffled between call centre agents and petrol station personnel whilst they try to figure out why the valid voucher you bought for BP has been declined, scribbling numbers on their hands - then this app is for you.
A simple visit to petrol station has now turned into an hour long visit and it is still not resolved. And to top it off, the advice I was given by the Vodacom call centre agent was to use the voucher as soon as possible next time despite the fact that the voucher has an expiry date of August 2027 printed on it (it’s Oct 2024 at the time of writing).
Putting the voucher issue aside. The recent update to the app regresses in terms of user experience. A once simple experience has now turned into a Rube Goldberg machine of taps/ clicks even to perform a simple tasks. For example: try to find your previously purchased vouchers. Why do you need to click into a shop to see you voucher history?

Unreliable service
After 3 years of paying my account via EFT from my banking app using the same details on every single payment, all of a sudden last month the bank account number is incorrect.
This tried to pay via the Vodacom app and THAT was unsuccessful. I tried to call the toll free number and couldn’t get through to a consultant. So I went into the store and even they said after I showed them the number only banking app that everything correlated with the details. Capitec also confirmed that there is no problem on their side and referred the problem back to Vodacom. So no I am in arrears because I can’t pay my bill. What makes matters worse is that I have been overcharged on my account now and cannot get a hold of anybody to sort this issue out! Absolutely rediculous!!!!!!!!!
I am furious! You have caused me to be in arrears and now you want to hound me for the money but I CANNOT MAKE A PAYMENT ON ANY PLATFORM, AND IT SEEMS YOU CANNOT SORT OUT THE DAM ISSUE!

Vodapay Data
Since Vodacom moved everything from my Vodacom app to Vodapay, the data discounts are no longer there, they are literally the same everyday unlike before where one would get different offers everyday. App crashes every time I use it. I’ve contacted their support so many times but they are also failing to resolve the issue. Terrible and this is the only reason I’ve decided to change networks after using this number and being a Vodacom customer for 20+ years.

Vodapay not amazing for me…
Maybe I’m the one who can’t use Vodapay but a few things frustrate me. I can’t seem to be able to purchase data using my available airtime balance. I need to either load money to my wallet, or use a card. That’s ridiculous to me. If the app can’t do everything then what’s the point of migrating us from an app that makes day to day top ups so convenient. Plus, you can’t use the app without airtime or data/wifi. So how are you meant to top up?
I still find myself using the *111 ussd and I find that a little backward.
Other features/ offerings are great.
