Could be better

I found the Vy app frustrating to use when trying to purchase tickets. Adding a payment method was unnecessarily difficult, and the process was not clearly explained. Only after I went to their website did I find out that for American customers, the app only accepts PayPal and American Express. This limitation was not made obvious upfront, which caused confusion and wasted time. This information should also be clearly displayed in the app for easier interaction. The app could be much more user friendly by clearly communicating accepted payment methods before customers reach the checkout stage.

Works great… ignore other reviews

Y’all. The app works fine if you’re literate (and you don’t even need to learn Norwegian for this—they have English, too)! The app was well made and easy to use, and had some helpful tourist information, as well!

Slowest app ever

It doesn’t even work

Easy to use for a non Norwegian

Maybe the rating is low due to the age of most of the reviews but I have only had a good experience using this app. Use it every time I’m in Norway to book train and bus tickets which is very straightforward. Have had no problems so far 😌

RE11 always in «wrong» order

After they opened the double-track from Drammen to Tønsberg, the train order seems to have changed more or less permanently without the on-station monitors indicating where the train cars are supposed to stop, have been updated to match the new reality. (And the app could also include the train/station placement information for the departure station of the passenger).

Unusable

A ticket preview from Gardermoen to Sentral shows only 27 mins validity. It should be 2hr30.
Use machines at airport instead!

Best Public Transit App Interface

Amazing interface. I have never left a review for an app but this app is just so aesthetically nice to use which is crazy for a public transit app. Like I genuinely looked forward to using it. Very straightforward. I have an American card and it worked fine!

Response from developer

Thank you! That's very kind of you. Hope you had a wonderful stay in Norway. Safe travels!

Absolutely disgusting

Mandatory app installation and profile creation just to buy a train ticket? These people are pure trash. Will immediately delete and report as soon as the trip is over.

Response from developer

To have the ticket in the app, you need to register. You can also use the website to buy tickets, where you can buy tickets without the app – also anonymously if you prefer.

train lines

no matter how hard i looked i couldn’t find any train lines to look at i only found a reference number that you have to put in after buying the ticket online or in person i just want to see the train lines the stations i can go to and how that all connect but no i just have to do guesswork i mean come on i think mcdonald’s has a map that you can use so see the stores that are open i would say get it but there is literally no reason too

Response from developer

Hi and thanks for the feedback. We don't have an actual map of all train lines in the app. But if you search online, you'll find one. It's on our website. Most users want to see the departures on their chosen line.

comically awful

The login button isn’t actually a button, but is just text. If you press it, it will highlight the words “log in”, but there’s no way to actually log in.

Response from developer

Hi and thanks for the feedback. We'll check this out with our developers. It _may_ be because of problems we had with the underlying ticket system. Are you able to log on now? If not, may we ask that you contact us in social media? Search for "vygruppen". You can DM us on Facebook, X, Instagram and Linkedin.

Worst UI I’ve ever used

The app will constantly try to verify your device and disables you from doing anything. Worst app I’ve ever as they state in the comments for tourists to use the Website and then add but you can’t even add the booking id. Please fix as this!!!

Response from developer

Hi and thanks for the feedback. May we ask you to send us a DM on social media, as the app shouldn't do that. Are you on wifi or mobile?

Messy signup, and clunky payment

I see the accountants strike again as they’ve given the developers no budget (because green KPI’s and bar graphs with the with profit are more important than the customer) because you can go in as a guest but have to sign up which the messy and confusing process.

Payment is still like the internet from 90s, I suppose it costs the company money to integrate / collab with Apple and Google Pay, plus it loves to unresponsive, thankfully it’s rescued by a decent train and on-board experience.

With profit over service, buy your ticket at a machine and read the screens, delete this app, it won’t getting better anytime soon!

Poorly designed

«Change to sweden in the settings». Why do i have to pay in SEK when departing from Norway???

Very unreliable and puts you in the worst seats

Thought this was great originally, and it is for planning, but often puts you in the worst seats and frequently breaks down when trying to change seats and make payments.

App is so buggy

Doesn’t work at all

Getting worse. It’s so glitchy.

Used to work okay by has become more and more glitchy. Now I can’t even login because it says my browser cookie setting is wrong, which is untrue. I have no problem with a single other App.
Do get this sorted please.

Please add Apple Pay

It is very cumbersome to go thru PayPal when you are hurry and need to make a quick ticket purchase at a station. ApplePay would be great!

Response from developer

Hi, thanks for the feedback. For Norwegian customers, we have the option to pay with Vipps. Your wish for ApplePay is noted!

Feedback suppressed

I just tried submitting feedback within the app about how it shows no results (with absolutely no explanation) when you try to book 17 days ahead Stockholm to Narvik. After typing a long response, I got an error message when I pressed send. Is Vy deliberately trying to suppress criticism of its Swedish contract?

Very nice

Really nice application. The GUI is slightly overloaded, but quite convenient and informative. It is also very handy that one can purchase the entire trip including the VY train, Ruter’s T-bane and a local bus. It even has a taxi, although that one goes separately, but it is still nice to have it right here in the same application.

I see several negative reviews here saying about problems with payment, and I reckon, this is about non-norwegian cards, and those indeed should be supported, I think. Meanwhile, for those living in Norway paying with Vipps works totally fine.

Response from developer

Hi and thanks for your kind words! Yes, we do not approve transactions with cards that don't have 3D-secure, due to security. PayPal offers transactions without 3D-secure, so we use PayPal as an options for customers having cards without 3D-secure. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3-D_Secure

Credit card/Americans & Canadians,

Hi, Any chance you could make it easier to use PayPal? Now I have to go through all menus (stations/date/time), by the time I get to “pay”, it tells Americans etc., has to use PayPal for some security stuff.

Any chance I can get to the PayPal link through a settings link, on top? Thank you.

PS Not sure about why Americans etc., have to use PayPal. I use my credit card all over Europe, and Norway in particular, without any issues, for years.

Response from developer

Hi, thanks for the feedback. Will forward it to developers. The reason for PayPal use, is that you can use card without 3D secure, which many banks and/or websites (including us) need to verify a transaction. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3-D_Secure
