Awesome App for Screenplays

This app simply rocks. It elegantly performs as advertised, taking you off the screenwriter’s Path to Insanity — that is, pinching/scrolling/zooming PDFs in perpetuity — and allows you to read scripts on your iPhone! Weekend Read is a game changer.

Perfect for reading and editing

I heard about this on scriptnotes. It’s incredibly useful for reading on the go. Plus, it helps give me a new perspective on my own writing . You get so used to the shape of your script on the page that seeing it in a different format really helps me focus on the language itself. Helps my brain finally pick up on all those little errors/typos I’ve read over 1000 times on autopilot.

Broken on ipad

Uploaded a pdf and the app broke the pages up randomly and deleted text. Wouldn’t be an issue if the text formatting button worked but it doesn’t open fully so I can’t see any of the settings.

In my opinion it’s unethical for this to be advertised on script notes and for them to be asking money but not fixing app breaking issues. Sure maybe it works on iPhone but come on.

Response from developer

Sorry you’re encountering an issue with an imported PDF. Please email support (support@quoteunquoteapps.com) so we can figure out if the issue is with one specific PDF, or a something bigger. We can quickly solve most issues when users email us directly. Thanks!

Fantastic app

Beautifully clean, easy to use another amazing calf

So Happy for This!

Simply amazing access—awesome!!

Over charged and broken features

I apologize in advance for the extra long review but its definitely warranted. The low star review will be updated to 4 once my over charges are credited back to my account.

On with my issues:

I recently sent a support email to have my over charges credited back to my account. I intended to keep this a private matter. Using the email link which is the only support link that works correctly.

I wanted to avoid the public facing review process. I expected this would receive simple and expedited attention since I was charged $25 for the yearly cost to use the app which is listed as $14.99 My email was sent on May 28th and still haven’t received any response from the team; not even an auto generated email.

This needs immediate attention, please.

Onto the rest of the review I left in the email.

I just want to be transparent here. Even with the mix up on the extra charge and the features that do not work as described. I still think the app is useful and intend on supporting it and using the rest of the features that work correctly until these bugs can be addressed and fixed in future updates.

- The import Final Draft files does not import promised (at least not Final Draft 13). The files are not recognised at all and greyed out, making it impossible to import my own project.

It will import PDF files, but when I import a PDF, it incorrectly displays the script formatting. The script is correctly formatted but when the app compiles the PDF it does so incorrectly. Instead it moves elements around or doesn't even bring them in at all.

There are words and even entire elements that appear at the bottom, and sometimes at the top, or in the middle. Content is just wrongly misplaced. To be honest, these are rather minor issues but it does mean I can't import my own script.

To me, the price is fair enough that it is still worth keeping it to read all of the other scripts included in the library.

However, I very much want the extra charge to be reversed and credited back to my bank account ASAP. If it isn't addressed immediately I’ll have no other choice to contest the entire charge with my bank.

I really don't want to because the app is still useful for studying. I can provide a screenshot of the extra charge if you need it as proof.

For information purposes; below I've listed my tech specs and environmental conditions but the private information that has been redacted can still be found in my original email:

Final Draft 13 for Windows
App installed on the iPhone XS Max
Current IOS version: 16.6.1
I export my FD v13 project file to PDF from inside FD v13
imports into your app come from my local iPhone folder.

Kind Regards.
I look forward to a faster response from here.

For People Who Love Screenwriting

You know who you are. You stop the movie to see how the beats match with the time lapse. You analyze the interior need and external desire of the main character. You argue about the antagonist and if they were 3-dimensional. This is the app for you. Curated by the amazing team at Scriptnotes, get the inside look at the screenplays that you love, or love to hate, to learn from the best writers in the industry. Highlight, take notes, send quotes to others plus listen to all the archived podcast episodes from John August and Craig Mazin.

Love it but one thing…

Can you please restore my place in the script when I launch the app? It goes to my library, and I can see that the script has a progress bar matching where I left off, but it opens to page 1. Then I have to scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll….

Nice! But Broken

The automatic viewer is pretty nice and worth getting for the free version alone. Thankfully I only needed to get the free trial to see that the premium ‘Read Aloud’ feature just didn’t work. I downloaded the voices via Settings, but it just shows the underlined portion which is meant to be read out, but doesn’t actually do any reading aloud.

Too many subscriptions.

A subscription to read scripts better is terrible. I was a huge fan the original, which had an upgrade purchase option and it was reasonable to do that. And I get how subscriptions provide more income for app creators but it be equally true that subscriptions have gone overboard to consumers these days. There are so many subscriptions to keep up with. Sure it’s 14.99 a year, but leasing the ability to read a script more elegantly won’t get more elegant the next year. Subscriptions have made apps and games suffer because they rarely update despite making more and consistent money. Subs benefit the creators of the app and no one else. I was a massive fan of the original and will keep using it until it’s nerfed or we get pushed in to leasing this reader of which I will not subscribe. A reading-helper should be owned, not leased. But if the dangling carrot of subscriptions gets chased by enough people to make this app a success than more power to you.

Fundamentally broken

I purchased annual subscription so as to get access to the additional features, but they just don’t work. I emailed the developer and never heard back from them. I had to request a refund in the end. It’s a real shame, because this could be a great little app, but the dev is MIA.

Good app this

Good app. Can read scripts. Can do a lot more. Clean and easy, thanks John & team.

The scripts don’t remain forever

I would have hoped to build a collection but there seems an expiry on them which is disappointing. other than that it’s very useful.

Really Good, But . . .

I really love the idea for this app—especially because I use Highland on my Mac and love being able to see my files on my iPad. The interface is clean, and the library of scripts is a huge bonus

But, when I try to open the reader settings on my iPad, a small popover appears, and I can’t interact with it to change the size or font because it’s so small. I dabble in developing and know this could be easily fixed by switching this from a popover to a sheet. I hope the developers see this and make this incredibly easy fix that would make this a five-star app!

It still cuts off the tops and bottoms of many script pages

Back in the original version of this app I discovered that many of my scripts lost text that was in the first few or last few lines of each page. I reported this and they said they were working on a new version of the app so I'd have to wait for that. Now that new version is here - at a subscription price - and... The bug is still there! I've reported it again but no reply. I guess I won't be renewing my subscription. To bad cause it's a great way to read a script when it works. Another interesting way - the voice reader - hasn't worked for me even once. Same results on both my iphone and ipad. Yes I reported it but no solution has been forthcoming.

Please please please

Can we get the ability to use the voice aloud reader without the need to have the screen active? That’s a pretty standard feature for text to speech apps and would make this a killer function. It’s already great as is, but having to change my device settings to turn off display auto-lock every time I need to listen to a script is an obstacle. Thanks for considering.

Great idea executed poorly. Very buggy

Multiple versions seem to cut off the bottom of nearly every page. This has led to some confusion and caused problems.

Broken and had to get a refund…

I LOVED the first weekend read and stupidly deleted it from my iPhone when this came out. This new version just doesn’t work. I cannot open attachments into this app. I just doesn’t work. I emailed their customer support twice, asking for help…and zero response. Ultimately I had to get Apple to refund me.

Bring back the original please!

Loved the original but this one doesn't work

Wrote their technical support several times because I paid for the added benefits and it didn't work. Got zero responses so had to have Apple refund me.

Please bring back the original!

First app doesn’t work anymore, don’t trust them

Paid 10 bucks for a useless app and now they want me to pay monthly. No thanks. Better companies out there.
