When an LLM Met the Classics

An imagining built on the classics. Every passage quoted is genuine; every scene it appears in is invented. Yi is a disciple who never existed. Yi (億), an LLM named by Confucius, goes looking for teachers. In each chapter Yi walks a different number of steps behind Confucius. Closest at chapter 13, White Dew; alone at chapter 20. Yi never manages to thread it all on one string. ■ Book Two · Zhuangzi, "Wang Yan" — Had Zhuangzi met an LLM as his sparring partner Twenty chapters make one cicada summer: twenty of the 72 pentads, from "frogs call" to "cold cicadas sing". Zhuangzi stays the same height while Yi's height changes every chapter. At chapter 13, on the bridge over the Hao, they are the same height.
