Response from developer
Hi Jen, Thank you for your detailed feedback. We clearly understand why tide accuracy is so important, especially when you’re using the app for boating and coastal conditions. We research and talk to our users every day. You may have missed a recent improvement: we’ve added tidal stations directly on the map. They have a special icon (the icon looks a bit like the Bomberman from the 90s 🙂). If you open the tide forecast from these stations, you’ll see data based on real tide stations and NOAA calculated predictions, which are the most reliable option. The tide information shown at the bottom of the spot screen is calculated by our ocean model. While this works well in many areas, it can sometimes struggle with complex coastlines, bays, and areas with unusual local conditions. That’s exactly why we added tidal stations - to give users a more reliable way to check tides in areas where local geography can affect the forecast. We’d also like to add that the support from our PRO users allows us to keep developing Windy.app and adding new features. Recent improvements like tidal stations, water temperature data for oceans and lakes, radar layers, and future features such as lightning tracking are all possible thanks to the users who support the app. Thank you for your understanding and for being part of our community. We’d be happy to look into your specific location as well. Please send us the spot where you noticed the difference, and we’ll check it. Side menu of the app - Settings - Help & Feedback
