Top reviews

No labels

It works fine, but the numbers are completely unlabeled and are ambiguous.
I have to relearn what all the numbers mean each time and I think it could be a safety hazard if someone misinterprets the data.

Just what the title says

Excellent, works well at what it says it does. Good interface, easy to read, would recommend.

Good quick reference

Incorporating gust factors would be appreciated, gusty winds are when I use the app.

Great App

Easy to use. It shows variable wind speeds above and beyond your setting, which is very helpful. It also remembers your settings. Great app.

Difficult to Understand

I understand how to set the Rwy heading but that’s about it. Not intuitive.

Response from developer

Hello Xplane enthusiast, sorry to hear you had some problems figuring out how to use the app. Did you have a look at the instruction video or in the “how to” section? Both are available from the settings menu, which is accessible by pushing the cogwheel symbol below the runway course.

Bring Back Old Version

The old version was perfect! Easy to use and fast. This new one isn’t intuitive nor easy to use. It’s being deleted.

Response from developer

Sorry to hear that you liked the previous version more. But to be honest, apart from some minor additions, the app hasn’t really changed since the first version. Could you please be a little bit more specific as to what changes are causing you problems now? (Please use e-mail: xwind@xs4all.nl)

Great app, poor instructions

Just rewrite the instructions so it’s more clear how to use

Response from developer

Thanks for your review. At the moment version 1.4 is almost ready to be published in the App Store. It has a short introductory video that shows the main controls of the app. Hopefully this will provide a clearer explanation!

best app for pro use

It takes a few moments to get used to setting variables, but in a turbulent environment this may be the best interface available.

Feature request : 3 customisable buttons to quickly set limits ( with valuables set on settings page). Eg: 30, 25, 17, for the different runway condition codes of the applicable aircraft type.
Alternatively these could be different colored concentric rings inside the red limit ring already available.

Response from developer

Thanks for your review! Although the simplicity of the app was always a prime objective, your suggestion to add an option to preset limits for certain runway conditions is worth to be taken into consideration.

XWind

When I figured how to use it I liked the simplicity of it. It gives you a quick and easy way to get your crosswinds component.

Great crosswind tool for the flight deck

Simple to use. After you set the limits of your aircraft there is no typing required. Setting the runway orientation, wind direction and velocity can be done in seconds. Additionally if you set your aircraft limits it will alert you when the winds are out of limits. Great, simple tool.

Just right visual calculator for wind

This is simple to use, easy to read, accurate and best of all: reliable. This can actual help you in the cockpit for approach planning. Great work on this app. Highly recommended.

Great tool to have in the airplane

It took a couple tries to figure out all of the subtleties of this app. But it works extremely well, it is a wonderful tool to have in the airplane for arriving at any airport after receiving the ATIS OR ASOS.

Speed toggle doesn’t work

The toggle to change from MPS to knots doesn’t work. It always shows MPS.

Response from developer

Hi Clarence, Sorry to hear that you have an issue with the mps/kts toggle feature. We would very much like to solve the issue. Could you provide some information for troubleshooting: - On what device are you experiencing the issue? - What iOS / iPadOS version is running on that device? - What wind speed unit have you set in the Settings menu? - Where exactly on the screen are you tapping for the toggle? - Could you maybe send a screenshot? Kind regards, Jan Bloemendaal E-mail: xWind@xs4all.nl

Отличное приложение

The best crosswind app in the App Store

I can’t believe this app is free. Hands down the best looking and most intuitive crosswind app for iOS.

great!

this app is great at what it does: simple, fast, and easy... everyone else is bloated, ugly and cumbersome!

Does exactly what I need it to do

Quick way of finding HW and CW component. Also a great way to visualize the wind in relationship to the runway.

What an easy too to use

Easy tool to use for a quick calculation of crosswind headwind components. Can’t wait to use this in flight.

Perfectly Uncluttered

This app has everything you need and nothing you don’t. Every other app that shows up in the search is garbage. Ugly and glitchy features. This app is several notches above the rest of the similar apps that have way too many unnecessary visuals going on. This app is just perfect. Just perfect.

Very useful

It took me a little while to work out the presentation & how it was displaying the wind information, but now I understand how it works, it’s fab. I particularly like the red ‘out-of-limits’ arc(s).
