Apple Watch heart rate. Start a workout on your iPhone and it launches the Watch app, which streams your heart rate back to the phone. A chest strap is no longer required. Pick Watch, strap or both once in setup or Settings; tap a card on the Start Workout screen to turn either off. A zone band under your heart rate, on the phone and on the Watch, shows where you are and where the target is, in words and with the distance: "push harder, 1 zone below". Gold means you are in it. Your bike and your strap are remembered. The app reconnects to them on its own the next time you ride, with no tapping. Cooldown is coached as a recovery, not a target: one word when your heart rate is coming down, one if it is not, never "too high". The last push runs straight into the cooldown, and your recovery score is measured from that peak. The screen stays awake for the whole workout. Music ducks under a coach cue and returns to full volume between cues. Also new since version 1.0: Live heart-rate zones. The whole screen washes gray, blue, green, orange or red as your heart rate moves through the zone bands. Voice zone feedback. Your coach tells you when you are above the target band, below it, and when you are back in it, on any heart-rate source. Apple Health. A finished workout saves to Health with one tap. With an Apple Watch, the app reads your live heart rate during a workout and nothing else. Any Bluetooth heart-rate monitor. Anything broadcasting the standard Bluetooth heart-rate service will pair. Set your max heart rate by hand. The zones are built from your number rather than an age formula. Share card. A summary image of a finished workout. Still no subscriptions, no accounts, and no ads. Workouts stay on your phone.
