Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Amex Expense at 50% against FFBW Personal Banking's 0%. Amex Expense also leads on update cadence (every 9 days vs every 4 months) and monetization model (free vs ad-supported). FFBW Personal Banking's advantage is rating (4.7 vs 4.0) and ratings volume (156 vs 11). On price, ads, in-app purchases and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
FFBW Personal Banking holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: FFBW Personal Banking has 156 ratings behind it against 11, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 0% of FFBW Personal Banking's written reviews are positive against 50% of Amex Expense's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
FFBW Personal Banking ships an update every 4 months, Amex Expense every 9 days. Both last shipped on October 29, 2026.
