Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: OpticsPlanet.com at none against Blade City's shown. OpticsPlanet.com also leads on review sentiment (92% vs 63%) and monetization model (free vs ad-supported). Blade City's advantage is update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 5 weeks). On price, rating, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.9 for OpticsPlanet.com against 4.8 for Blade City. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: OpticsPlanet.com has 16K ratings behind it against 1.8K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 92% of OpticsPlanet.com's written reviews are positive against 63% of Blade City's.
OpticsPlanet.com ships an update every 5 weeks, Blade City every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 8, 2026 and November 6, 2026 respectively.
