Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: iChef ET at 3.3 against PerchLens's 1.9. iChef ET also leads on iOS requirement (7.1 vs 12.0). PerchLens's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 20 months) and ratings volume (341 vs 4). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

iChef ET holds the better App Store score, 3.3 against 1.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: PerchLens has 341 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 10% of iChef ET's written reviews are positive against 12% of PerchLens's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

iChef ET ships an update every 20 months, PerchLens every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and November 8, 2026 respectively.
