Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: ST at 5.0 against HamAlert's 4.0. ST also leads on iOS requirement (12.0 vs 15.6). HamAlert's advantage is update cadence (every 5 months vs every 27 months) and review sentiment (67% vs 50%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

ST holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: HamAlert has 34 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of HamAlert's written reviews are positive against 50% of ST's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

HamAlert ships an update every 5 months, ST every 27 months. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
