Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Workout Timer at none against Timer Plus's shown. Timer Plus's advantage is review sentiment (94% vs 65%) and ratings volume (60K vs 15). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Workout Timer sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Timer Plus sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Timer Plus holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Timer Plus has 60K ratings behind it against 15, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 65% of Workout Timer's written reviews are positive against 94% of Timer Plus's.
Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on September 8, 2026 and September 29, 2026 respectively.
