Boringdon's Devonshire manor became crown property following the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII in 1539. The monarch later granted the property to his courtier Thomas Wriothesley, the Earl of Southampton, who was a royal favourite. Since then, Boringdon Hall has since had a rather extravagant makeover, giving this stately pile a serious air of perfection, with devotedly designed interiors, 55 sumptuous rooms and suites, three tantalising restaurants including the Michelin-starred and 4 AA Rosette Àclèaf Restaurant, and the Great Hall where lighter bites and afternoon tea is served. On arrival, guests are greeted by the Boringdon Concierge who will assist with your luggage and take it to your room. We also offer a complimentary Valet Service to all our guests. Gaia Spa is a purpose-built wellness spa set within the grounds of Boringdon, a completely unique space for relaxation and reconnecting with nature, designed with the need for complete wellbeing in mind. 2019 Hotel Spa of the Year in Western Europe & Scandinavia at the World Spa & Wellness Awards Best Destination Spa in the UK & Ireland in 2018 Condé Nast Johansen Awards Sunday Times Number One Hotel & Spa 2016

Verdict
The clearest difference is ratings volume: Railcard at 7.3K against Boringdon Hall's 4. Railcard also leads on rating (4.8 vs 4.5) and update cadence (monthly vs every 2 months). Boringdon Hall's advantage is review sentiment (63% vs 44%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Railcard holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Railcard has 7.3K ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 44% of Railcard's written reviews are positive against 63% of Boringdon Hall's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Railcard ships an update monthly, Boringdon Hall every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
