Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Consumers Energy at 4.7 against ChapMobile's 4.0. Consumers Energy also leads on update cadence (every 4 weeks vs every 5 months) and ratings volume (23K vs 9). ChapMobile's advantage is review sentiment (50% vs 25%) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 16.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Consumers Energy holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Consumers Energy has 23K ratings behind it against 9, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of ChapMobile's written reviews are positive against 25% of Consumers Energy's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
ChapMobile ships an update every 5 months, Consumers Energy every 4 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
