Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Caramel at 100% against ReceiptJar's 23%. ReceiptJar's advantage is rating (4.7 vs 3.0) and ratings volume (65K vs 2). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
ReceiptJar holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ReceiptJar has 65K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 23% of ReceiptJar's written reviews are positive against 100% of Caramel's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
ReceiptJar ships an update every 4 days, Caramel every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
