Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Pocket Docs at 5.0 against PDF Document Scanner's 4.7. Pocket Docs also leads on iOS requirement (16.0 vs 26.0). PDF Document Scanner's advantage is update cadence (every 5 days vs every 3 weeks) and review sentiment (74% vs 64%). On price, ratings volume, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

CostPrice · In-app purchases · Ads · Monetization

Both are free to download. PDF Document Scanner sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $1.49 per 7 days and Pocket Docs sells 2 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Pocket Docs holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 118 and 40 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 74% of PDF Document Scanner's written reviews are positive against 64% of Pocket Docs's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

PDF Document Scanner ships an update every 5 days, Pocket Docs every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 11, 2026 and October 6, 2026 respectively.
