Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: A24 at 3.6 against IMAX's 2.3. A24 also leads on ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (198 vs 32). IMAX's advantage is review sentiment (35% vs 22%). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

CostPrice · In-app purchases · Ads · Monetization

Both are free to download. IMAX sells 19 one-off in-app purchases and A24 sells 114 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

A24 holds the better App Store score, 3.6 against 2.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: A24 has 198 ratings behind it against 32, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 35% of IMAX's written reviews are positive against 22% of A24's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

IMAX ships an update monthly, A24 every 4 weeks. Both last shipped on October 14, 2026.
