Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Thought Records at 100% against AltoThought's 33%. Thought Records also leads on device support (4 vs 2). AltoThought's advantage is rating (4.3 vs 4.0) and update cadence (every 6 weeks vs every 3 months). On price, ratings volume, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

CostPrice · In-app purchases · Ads · Monetization

Both are free to download. Thought Records sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and AltoThought sells 4 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

AltoThought holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 4.0. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 2 and 3 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Thought Records's written reviews are positive against 33% of AltoThought's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Thought Records ships an update every 3 months, AltoThought every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
