Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: GX Timer at 100% against Meshtastic's 44%. GX Timer also leads on iOS requirement (11.0 vs 17.5). Meshtastic's advantage is ratings volume (803 vs 1) and rating (4.2 vs 4.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Meshtastic holds the better App Store score, 4.2 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Meshtastic has 803 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 44% of Meshtastic's written reviews are positive against 100% of GX Timer's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Meshtastic ships an update every 10 days, GX Timer every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on September 27, 2026 and September 23, 2026 respectively.
