Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Private Browser at 4.5 against XR Browser's 3.6. Private Browser also leads on ratings volume (231 vs 12). XR Browser's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 2) and review sentiment (100% vs 68%). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Private Browser sells 2 one-off in-app purchases. XR Browser asks for nothing beyond the download.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Private Browser holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Private Browser has 231 ratings behind it against 12, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of XR Browser's written reviews are positive against 68% of Private Browser's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
