Due to limitations in the Safari browser, Kagi cannot be set as your default search engine. Instead, this extension intercepts your request to your default search engine selected in Safari and redirects to Kagi, creating a seamless search experience. It works in Private Browsing as well. Please note that some requests may still be sent to your default search engine due to this limitation, although the redirect will always be successful. Kagi search is a quick, user-centric, 100% privacy-respecting search engine with results augmented by non-commercial indexes and personalized searches. It has a clean, high-performance user interface with only the most relevant results and no telemetry, no ads and no collection of private information.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
FireHydrant holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Kagi for Safari has 186 ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 47% of Kagi for Safari's written reviews are positive against 33% of FireHydrant's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Kagi for Safari ships an update every 10 days, FireHydrant every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
