Verdict
The clearest difference is ratings volume: Spill at 1.6K against AfroYap's 13. Spill also leads on review sentiment (65% vs 50%). AfroYap's advantage is rating (4.8 vs 4.6) and monetization model (free vs ad-supported). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
AfroYap holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Spill has 1.6K ratings behind it against 13, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 65% of Spill's written reviews are positive against 50% of AfroYap's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Spill ships an update every 9 days, AfroYap every 6 days. The most recent releases landed on November 3, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
