Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Rail Europe at 4.6 against SBB Mobile's 3.9. Rail Europe also leads on ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). SBB Mobile's advantage is update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 2 months) and review sentiment (61% vs 44%). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Rail Europe holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Rail Europe has 1.2K ratings behind it against 74, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 61% of SBB Mobile's written reviews are positive against 44% of Rail Europe's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

SBB Mobile ships an update every 2 weeks, Rail Europe every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 31, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
