Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: PressReader at 4.7 against SGSecure's 3.4. PressReader also leads on ratings volume (19K vs 15) and chart position (#39 vs unranked). SGSecure's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 11) and review sentiment (70% vs 59%). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

PressReader holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: PressReader has 19K ratings behind it against 15, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 59% of PressReader's written reviews are positive against 70% of SGSecure's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

PressReader ships an update monthly, SGSecure every 6 weeks. Both last shipped on October 29, 2026.
