Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: GameFly at none against KontrolFreek's shown. GameFly also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and ratings volume (9.9K vs 607). KontrolFreek's advantage is review sentiment (68% vs 37%) and rating (4.9 vs 4.7). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
KontrolFreek holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: GameFly has 9.9K ratings behind it against 607, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 37% of GameFly's written reviews are positive against 68% of KontrolFreek's.
Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 3 weeks. Both last shipped on October 29, 2026.
