The clearest difference is rating: Pantagraph at 3.4 against Napa Valley Register, CA's 2.0. Pantagraph also leads on ratings volume (402 vs 42). Napa Valley Register, CA's advantage is chart position (#188 vs unranked) and review sentiment (28% vs 19%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Pantagraph sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $27.99 per month and Napa Valley Register, CA sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $14.95 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Pantagraph holds the better App Store score, 3.4 against 2.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Pantagraph has 402 ratings behind it against 42, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 19% of Pantagraph's written reviews are positive against 28% of Napa Valley Register, CA's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 6, 2026 respectively.
