Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Leanpub at 5.0 against Ebook Reader's 3.4. Leanpub also leads on update cadence (monthly vs every 3 months). Ebook Reader's advantage is review sentiment (51% vs 13%) and ratings volume (583 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Leanpub holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Ebook Reader has 583 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 51% of Ebook Reader's written reviews are positive against 13% of Leanpub's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Ebook Reader ships an update every 3 months, Leanpub monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 8, 2026 respectively.
