Verdict
The clearest difference is monetization model: Plane and Train Crash Tracker at free with in-app purchases against NJ.com's subscription. Plane and Train Crash Tracker also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.5) and update cadence (daily vs every 3 weeks). NJ.com's advantage is ratings volume (25K vs 2) and chart position (#51 vs unranked). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. NJ.com sells 16 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per month and Plane and Train Crash Tracker sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Plane and Train Crash Tracker holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: NJ.com has 25K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.
NJ.com ships an update every 3 weeks, Plane and Train Crash Tracker daily. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
