Verdict
The clearest difference is update cadence: Element X at fortnightly against Mumble's every 4 months. Element X also leads on rating (3.4 vs 3.1). Mumble's advantage is review sentiment (67% vs 39%) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 18.5). On price, ratings volume, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Element X holds the better App Store score, 3.4 against 3.1. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 64 and 162 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of Mumble's written reviews are positive against 39% of Element X's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Mumble ships an update every 4 months, Element X fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 22, 2026 respectively.
