Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Major Cineplex at none against oneD's 15. Major Cineplex also leads on rating (3.5 vs 3.1) and update cadence (weekly vs fortnightly). oneD's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (49% vs 28%). On price, ratings volume, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. oneD sells 13 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Major Cineplex asks for nothing beyond the download.
Major Cineplex holds the better App Store score, 3.5 against 3.1. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 24 and 30 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 28% of Major Cineplex's written reviews are positive against 49% of oneD's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Major Cineplex ships an update weekly, oneD fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 19, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
