Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Covideo at 4.7 against Impel Capture's 3.1. Covideo also leads on review sentiment (67% vs 25%) and ratings volume (4.7K vs 60). Impel Capture's advantage is monetization model (free vs ad-supported). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Covideo holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Covideo has 4.7K ratings behind it against 60, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 67% of Covideo's written reviews are positive against 25% of Impel Capture's.
Covideo ships an update every 3 weeks, Impel Capture monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 19, 2026 respectively.
