Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Utah's VFX 94.5 at 63% against Megaplex Mobile's 19%. Megaplex Mobile's advantage is rating (4.7 vs 3.3) and ads (none vs shown). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Megaplex Mobile holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Megaplex Mobile has 12K ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 63% of Utah's VFX 94.5's written reviews are positive against 19% of Megaplex Mobile's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Utah's VFX 94.5 ships an update every 8 months, Megaplex Mobile every 6 months. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and November 1, 2026 respectively.
