Welcome to Mud Finder, the mobile solution made for riders. Mud Finder is the first of its kind to offer this much functionality for riders in one intuitive app. Search our constantly growing list of locations all across the country to find the right trail for you. Locations are added by our users, then verified and kept up-to-date by our locations team. There's also an option for reviewing and check-ins for every location, so you can see what others are saying before making your choice. We can make your experience even better by offering listings for services, near where your riding, such as vehicle repair, gas, food, lodging, etc. Version 3 brings a few new things to the table. We have an event section that is starting to get populated with events all over the country. You can search and find events for a location and date in the future. We have a new look to the main page that is very attractive and allows for the expansion we need for new things coming. We also now have a section for classifieds that we are adding gear and rides to that are off-road oriented. With each new version comes new and exciting features, so be on the look-out for updates. Keep riding, and we look forward to helping you plan your next trip.

Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: MTB Project at none against Mud Finder's shown. MTB Project also leads on ratings volume (4.4K vs 8) and monetization model (free vs ad-supported). Mud Finder's advantage is review sentiment (50% vs 32%) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 5 weeks). On price, rating, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for MTB Project against 4.6 for Mud Finder. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MTB Project has 4.4K ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 32% of MTB Project's written reviews are positive against 50% of Mud Finder's.
MTB Project ships an update every 5 weeks, Mud Finder fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and September 23, 2026 respectively.
