Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: BettaShield at 100% against Cortland Connect's 50%. BettaShield also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 6 weeks). Cortland Connect's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 2) and ratings volume (5.1K vs 3). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. BettaShield sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month. Cortland Connect asks for nothing beyond the download.
Cortland Connect holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Cortland Connect has 5.1K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Cortland Connect's written reviews are positive against 100% of BettaShield's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Cortland Connect ships an update every 6 weeks, BettaShield every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 30, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
