Commuting shouldn’t drain your wallet — or the planet. Ride Splits is a ridesharing app built for CSUSB students who want to make money, save money, and reduce their environmental impact just by getting to campus the same way they already do. Every day, thousands of students drive alone to school, spending hundreds on gas, parking, and car maintenance. At the same time, those empty seats mean more traffic and more emissions. Ride Splits fixes that. With Ride Splits, students can: - Offer rides on routes they already drive - Split commuting costs with other students - Earn money from empty seats - Lower gas expenses and emissions - Reduce traffic around campus - Commute smarter without changing routines If you’re driving, your car can finally work for you. If you need a ride, you get a cheaper, more sustainable option than driving alone. Ride Splits makes commuting a shared effort — better for your bank account, better for the planet, and better for the CSUSB community. Smarter rides. Less waste. More money in your pocket.

Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Ride Splits at 100% against Volaris's 14%. Ride Splits also leads on ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). Volaris's advantage is rating (4.8 vs 4.3) and ratings volume (16K vs 6). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Volaris holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Volaris has 16K ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 14% of Volaris's written reviews are positive against 100% of Ride Splits's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Volaris ships an update every 2 weeks, Ride Splits every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 3, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
