BioStacks scores every supplement from 0 to 100 based on published clinical research — not marketing. Scan any bottle to see how its doses compare to human trials, whether the forms absorb, and whether it's worth your money. NO "PRODUCT NOT FOUND" Most scanners hit a wall when a product isn't in their database. BioStacks doesn't. Point your camera at any Supplement Facts label — a new launch, an indie brand, an imported bottle — and we read the ingredients, doses, and forms straight off the label and scores it on the spot. No barcode needed, no dead-ends. Already in our catalog? Scan the barcode for an instant match. HOW THE 0–100 SCORE WORKS Every ingredient is scored on three things, multiplied together: • Clinical dose — your dose is compared against the range used in published trials, not the Daily Value. A 10 mg dose of an ingredient studied at 500 mg scores near zero. Sub-therapeutic "sprinkle" doses are punished, and there's no bonus for mega-dosing. • Form & bioavailability — the chemical form decides how much you actually absorb. Magnesium glycinate scores far above magnesium oxide. Methylfolate beats folic acid. Ubiquinol beats ubiquinone. • Evidence weight — ingredients with strong RCT and meta-analysis support count for more than ones backed only by mechanism or tradition. A separate Safety score — overdoses, interactions, and inactive-ingredient ratings — only pulls the final number down, never up. A clean but under-dosed product is still a bad product, and BioStacks says so. We cover 380+ active ingredients with clinical dose ranges; blends that hide per-ingredient doses score low. Every product shows a per-ingredient verdict like "8% of effective dose — negligible," plus "Underdosed" and "Proprietary blend" flags. LAB TESTING & PURITY Efficacy is our focus; purity counts too. We surface third-party certifications (NSF, USP Verified, Informed Sport) and brand testing practices — heavy-metapurity screening, batch COAs, cGMP — right on the product page, and a fake per-bottle "tested" claim. Does it work — and is it clean? 20 HEALTH AREAS, RANKED BY SCIENCE Find the best supplements for Sleep, Stress & Mood, Skin, Hair, Immune, Digestion, Muscle, Hormones, Liver, Longevity, General Health, Metabolism, and more. Each area has its own clinically weighted scoring — ranked by dose, form and science. NUTRIENT EXPLORER & "BEST FOR" GUIDES Best magnesium for sleep? Best vitamin D? Search 99 ingredient dossiers and the real trials, with PubMed citations. STACK INTELLIGENCE Build a stack by scan or search, then run it through five analyses: Safety (overdoses, risky interactions), Coverage (gaps across your goals, with products to fill them), Dosing (each dose vs. its clinical range, plus weak-form alerts), Value (cost per day), and Optimization. Schedule doses, build a streak, get reminders, and share your stack with a link. Or ask the built-in AI ("Does this actually work?", "Is my stack overdosing?"), grounded in our scoring and clinical data. WHAT MAKES BIOSTACKS DIFFERENT Most scanners dead-end when a product isn't in their database — scan a new bottle and get an error, not an answer. The ones that find it rate brand trust, which won't tell you if the ingredients work at those doses. A certified brand can sell 10 mg when the clinical dose is 500 mg; that rating misses it, BioStacks reads the label and catches it. Every score is grounded in clinical trials and meta-analyses — no marketing, no influencers — just science. DISCLAIMER Every score is grounded in published clinical trials, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses. No marketing claims. No influencer endorsements. Just the science. Biostacks helps you track, understand, and improve your supplement routine while keeping your data private. Build your supplement library by: • Scanning barcodes with your camera • Searching NIH DSLD and Open Food Facts data (well-known brands and popular supplements available offline) • Entering supplements, doses, and nutrients manually • Asking the built-in Apple Intelligence assistant (iPhone 15 Pro and newer) • Asking your own AI assistant with a ready-made copy-and-paste prompt Create routines and schedules that match how you take things: • Daily, specific weekdays, or on/off cycles (like 5 days on, 2 off) • Multiple times of day, from a morning multivitamin to an evening magnesium • Peptide support: vial size, reconstitution volume, and a draw-volume calculator Then get insights into your stack: • StackScore, a 0 to 100 quality score for your whole routine • Potential interactions based on public research, each with a source link • Warnings when a nutrient total goes over its safe upper limit • RDA coverage across your vitamins and minerals • Nutrient overlaps between products • Brand quality and trust signals • Adherence history and score trends over 30, 90, or 365 days, with CSV export • Monthly cost per supplement and per stack • Running-low refill alerts Log doses with one tap, mark a whole stack taken at once, and long-press to skip a dose without breaking your streak. Reminders keep you on schedule, and smart tuning suggests a better reminder time when you consistently log late. Progress rings and streaks show your consistency day by day. You can also log a dose by asking Siri. Your day, organized: • Doses grouped into taken, due, and upcoming • A calendar of every past day, with mood dots from your check-ins • Search and filter once your stack grows • Notes on stacks and on individual supplements • Reorder stacks and items to match how you take them • Dark, light, and system themes Check in daily on your mood, energy, sleep, and focus. View your trends, run on/off experiments, and see whether a supplement moves the numbers. Correlations only appear once there is enough data behind them; Biostacks will not show you a pattern it cannot stand behind. Ask questions in the on-device AI chat: review your routine, explain an ingredient, or change your stack by describing what you want. Every suggested change appears as a review you accept or reject, with undo. Prefer your personal assistant? Copy the prompt, paste the answer back, and review the changes the same way. Privacy first: • Works fully offline • No account and no sign-up • Your health data stays on your device • Optional backup and sync to your own iCloud • Snapshots and version history, so you can roll back any change • Export everything anytime as JSON or PDF, or share a stack as plain text Everyday tracking covers dose logging, streaks, reminders, check-ins with rating trends, the library and barcode scanner, export, import, and backups. Biostacks Pro, an annual subscription with a 7-day free trial, adds StackScore insights, check-in correlations, historical trends, cost tracking, smart reminder tuning, and cloud sync. Whether you take a daily vitamin D and omega-3 or manage a full stack of supplements, nootropics, and peptides, Biostacks gives you one private place to log your intake, stay consistent, and understand how your routine fits together.

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is ads: Biostacks at none against Supplement Scanner's shown. Biostacks also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.8). Supplement Scanner's advantage is ratings volume (9 vs 1). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Supplement Scanner sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days and Biostacks sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Biostacks holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Supplement Scanner has 9 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
