WBV vs Vibration Meter, seismograph
Price, ratings, monetisation and update history for both apps, side by side — with what reviewers say about each.
WBV
This utility app estimates whole-body vibration amplitude using your device's accelerometer. It helps assess potential health risks associated with vibration exposure, particularly for seated operators. Data can be emailed or downloaded for workplace safety monitoring.
- Estimates vibration amplitude
- Measures frequency weighted r.m.s and VDV
- Graphical display with health guidance
- Summary data and acceleration time series
- Email and download data
- GPS support for location data

Whole-body vibration refers to the vibration transmitted to the human body whilst supported by a vibrating surface. The most common exposure occurs through the buttocks when seated in a vehicle. Long term exposure to high amplitude whole-body vibration is strongly associated with the development of back pain and other adverse health effects. The Whole Body Vibration application (WBV) utilizes the accelerometer within an iPod or iPhone to provide an estimate of vibration amplitude consistent with the methods described in ISO2631.1. Frequency weighted r.m.s and VDV values are presented graphically with reference to the health guidance caution zone for exposures of varying durations. Summary data and acceleration time series are available to be emailed or downloaded. The application is intended for use within occupational contexts to provide a simple screening or monitoring tool for use by workplace safety and health staff. It is suitable for use to estimate whole-body vibration amplitude of seated operators of all vehicles, plant or equipment. Use is straight forward. After entering trial information, sampling is commenced with a tap and the device placed on the operator’s seat during a period of normal operation. At the completion of the period, sampling is ended with a tap and the results calculated and made available for viewing and emailing. The application has been developed by the consultants at the Byte Works under direction of Robin Burgess-Limerick, Professor of Human Factors in the Minerals Industry Safety and Health Centre at The University of Queensland, AUSTRALIA. The project was funded by the NSW Coal Services Health and Safety Trust. WBV supports the use of GPS, optionally in the foreground and always when background processing is used. The location information is included in the raw data file, which is available using the export features. Continued use of GPS running in the background (or foreground) can dramatically decrease battery life. You can turn GPS on or off using the WBV preferences, available from the Settings app.
Vibration Meter, seismograph
This application uses your phone's accelerometer to measure and record vibrations from various sources, including earthquakes and everyday objects. It displays ground motion on a graph and uses an instrumental intensity scale for analysis. You can also monitor and share your measurement results.

Vibration meter is an app called seismograph or seismometer, which measures the strength of vibration, quakes, earthquakes, vibrations of the human body or any other objects around you. Our app allows for detecting and recording of seismic waves generated by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, avalanches and other sources of vibration and shocks. Accelerometer in your mobile phone is used for detection of vibrations and measurement analysis. Graph presents a record of the ground motion at a measuring point. Ground movement or an object is presented as a function of time in the three Cartesian axes, with the z axis perpendicular to the Earth's surface and the x- and y- axes parallel to the surface. Mercalli intensity scale is a seismic scale used for measuring the intensity of an earthquake. It measures the effects of an earthquake and it is distinct from the moment of magnitude. Richter Scale assigns a magnitude number to quantify the energy released by an earthquake. Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) is equal to the maximum ground acceleration that occurred during earthquake shaking at location. PGA is equal to the amplitude of the largest absolute acceleration recorded on an accelerogram at a site during a particular earthquake. In this app we use Instrumental Intensity Scale (developed by The United States Geological Survey) which maps peak ground acceleration and peak ground velocity on an intensity scale similar to the felt Mercalli Scale. These values are used to create shake maps by seismologists on around the world. Mercalli Intensity Scale distinguishes the following levels of vibration and impact damage: I. Instrumental - Not felt. Recorded by seismographs. II. Weak - Felt only on top floors of high buildings. III. Slight - Felt indoors, like a passing light truck. IV. Moderate - Windows, doors rattle. Like passing train. V. Rather Strong - Felt by all. Small objects upset. VI. Strong - Books off shelves. Trees shake. Damage. VII. Very Strong - Difficult to stand. Buildings damaged. VIII. Destructive - Significant damage. Trees broken. IX. Violent - General panic. Serious damage. Cracks. X. Intense - Most buildings destroyed. Rails bent. XI. Extreme - Rails bent greatly. Pipelines destroyed. XII. Catastrophic - Near total damage. This app allows you monitor and share the results of your measurements with other users. Measure and monitor all vibration and shocks using smartphone or tablet!

Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Vibration Meter, seismograph at 42% against WBV's 0%. Vibration Meter, seismograph also leads on ratings volume (717 vs 1). WBV's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 1) and rating (5.0 vs 4.7). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Vibration Meter, seismograph sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. WBV asks for nothing beyond the download.
WBV holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Vibration Meter, seismograph has 717 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 0% of WBV's written reviews are positive against 42% of Vibration Meter, seismograph's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 7 months. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 18, 2026 respectively.
