BART Watch: Free Security App for Riders. The BART Watch App offers the public a quick and discreet method for reporting suspicious activity directly to BART Police. The app can send pictures, text messages, and locations of suspicious people or activities. From the home screen, users have two easy options for contacting BART Police: * The “Report a Problem” button allows users to send text or photos directly to BART Police. To ensure discretion, the camera flash is automatically disabled when photos are taken through the app. When reporting an issue, users can select locations and report categories to assist BART Police. Riders can also send reports anonymously if they chose. * The “Call BART Police” button will connect customers directly to BART Police. The application is designed for BART. If you send a report in an area without cellular connectivity, it will be stored and sent when connectivity returns. The system is also designed to send text messages before pictures so that BART Police can get app reports as quickly as possible. Additional Features BOLO (Be On the Look Out) Alerts. BOLO Alerts on the BART Watch App may display alerts from BART Police about specific persons of interest. For example, BART Watch may display information about a missing person or child, such as where they were last seen. If you see a person from a BOLO, immediately call 911 and send an app report to BART Police discreetly. Help keep BART safe, "See something, Say something."

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Today at 4.7 against BART Watch's 4.4. BART Watch's advantage is ratings volume (2.9K vs 412) and review sentiment (35% vs 26%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Today holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: BART Watch has 2.9K ratings behind it against 412, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 35% of BART Watch's written reviews are positive against 26% of Today's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
BART Watch ships an update every 3 months, Today every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.

Reported bugs
16 issues- First bike did not unlock, second bike unlocked but ten separate charges
- Forgot to swipe to end ride, assumed locking was ending the ride
- Bike battery only rode so many miles, no sign posted
- Brakes need attention
- Wish this app worked with VPN’s

- Getting an error message now and it won’t fully load
- Had an error 7 and no power for a few minutes but boost came back. Happened twice.
- Bike/app acted as if the bike had been unlocked, but it wasn’t. Currently getting charged 20 cents a minute
- Cannot get through paying; husband paid but cannot unlock; neither can he end the ride.
- Scooters are never charged, you have to park them in designated spots
- Did a ride, returned the bike, ended the ride in the App, locked the bike up, listened to the bike make the shut-down tone and shut down the display... and they charged me $200 for never returning the bike.
- Scooter ran out of battery part way through the ride (had 32% to start and it only lasted about 15 minutes). Of course once the battery dies, you can’t end your ride so the timer for billing keeps running.
- After we finished our ride, we locked our bikes and tried to end our rides through the leap app. Guess what?! The ride didn’t wanna end, the app kept on telling us to lock our bike (which we already did) and they were still charging us.
- App does not work, and the staff has no ability to help
- Hopefully, they are not dead or out of battery. Then when you want to finish your drive! it won’t happen after you call service. After 1 day, it will fix. They will not refund your payment. Sometime, there are random scooter activate you didn’t know, it will charge your account.
- The hardware Leap decided to use for some reason is the worst in the scooter marketplace. Bells broken, brakes busted, batteries always dead. Besides the software being buggy as all get out, the best part of the app is how some scooters just straight up say “Unavailable” or “Unknown Error” when trying to rent one.
