Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: BNi Reference at 5.0 against iPostal1's 3.3. BNi Reference also leads on iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.1). iPostal1's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 10) and ratings volume (1.1K vs 2). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. BNi Reference sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $14.99 per month. iPostal1 asks for nothing beyond the download.
BNi Reference holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: iPostal1 has 1.1K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 11, 2026 and October 5, 2026 respectively.
