ímesh, meaning "to walk" in Skwxwú7mesh snichim (Squamish Language), is a mobile app being developed by the Bill Reid Centre for Northwest Coast Studies at Simon Fraser University. The app is a response to the university’s Community Engagement Strategy, and its Aboriginal Strategic Plan, and is intended to be a step, however small, toward decolonizing the university and the surrounding landscape. The goal of the app is to communicate through experience, the unique worldviews represented by the Indigenous art on campus, and to create a stronger awareness of the Coast Salish territories on which SFU is situated. Please note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Ímesh at 100% against ParkVictoria's 53%. Ímesh also leads on iOS requirement (8.2 vs 15.6). ParkVictoria's advantage is rating (4.8 vs 4.0) and update cadence (every 2 months vs every 11 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

ParkVictoria holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ParkVictoria has 163 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 53% of ParkVictoria's written reviews are positive against 100% of Ímesh's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

ParkVictoria ships an update every 2 months, Ímesh every 11 months. Both last shipped on November 6, 2026.
