Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: ARVA at none against Backcountry Ski's 2. ARVA also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.6) and iOS requirement (14.0 vs 18.0). Backcountry Ski's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (weekly vs every 2 months). On price, review sentiment and device support there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

ARVA holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Backcountry Ski has 261 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 63% of Backcountry Ski's written reviews are positive against 57% of ARVA's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Backcountry Ski ships an update weekly, ARVA every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
