Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Ride Circuit at none against Catalina Compass's 2. Ride Circuit also leads on rating (4.9 vs 4.5) and ratings volume (19K vs 8). Catalina Compass's advantage is review sentiment (86% vs 52%) and chart position (#196 vs unranked). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Catalina Compass sells 2 one-off in-app purchases. Ride Circuit asks for nothing beyond the download.
Ride Circuit holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Ride Circuit has 19K ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 52% of Ride Circuit's written reviews are positive against 86% of Catalina Compass's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Ride Circuit ships an update every 3 weeks, Catalina Compass every 4 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
