Great at first…

But if you allow your subscription to lapse, they lock you out of the progress you already made - and paid for.

they sold out

they are not letting me meditate for free anymore

Not worth it

As others have said. This app was glitchy but it was worth it since it was free. Now it costs $50. I might have said it’s worth $5.

Rug Pullers

I was genuinely a huge fan of this app, I used to recommend it to everyone in my life. When this app was free, it was one I was grateful for. After a while of using it, the app became a buggy mess, which I was willing to forgive because it was free and I had already gone through the course a few times. The glitchiness became so severe that the app was unfortunately unusable and I had to uninstall it. After months of utilizing other apps and having updated my phone, I decided to try downloading One Giant Mind again, only to find that the free meditation course is now hidden behind a $50 paywall. I used to recommend this app as a way to practice transcendental meditation for free. This app was valuable at one time, but so limited in features that there is no way it is worth $50. Save your money and use the free version of Insight Timer.

Wack

Used to be such a great application to learn how to meditate… a shame this is locked behind a monthly paywall now.

Opposite effect

Used to be free and I was through half of the steps now I can’t progress. I’m more stressed now because of this app. Make the 12 steps free and require a subscription for content that actually gets updated.

Frustrated

I’m unhappy with the app. I’ve used it daily for 10 years. It was free, now it costs $15 a month and I’m not sure why? If there was an explanation I’d probably be happy to contribute because it’s helped me for so many years but I don’t believe anything has changed on the app to warrant the subscription. Could the meditation timer be free to use?

Side note to the app developers: The bell is awkwardly timed at the end of the meditation now.. not sure if anyone tested the meditation timer from start to finish.

Offensive money grabbing stitch up!

After seriously enjoying using the app for a long time while it was free, the sudden forced “upgrade” to the paid only version came at a really bad time for me owing to a family bereavement where as a result I was unable to access it when I really needed it most. Eventually having resolved the sign up issues for the 2 month free trial I contacted the support team to ask for a list of the promised “improvements” - as I could see none. After no response and with the absence of a free version I’m afraid my 1giantmind journey is coming to an end. A once beautiful idea has now been corrupted by the greed of whoever has bought the original app in order to abuse the goodwill of the original users. I appreciate there may be server costs, which I would not mind paying for, however what is being asked for in terms of a monthly subscription is far too high for an app with zero promised improvements. The fact that it has a 4 star rating in the App Store must be down to previous reviews before it became paid only - just check the other more recent negative reviews since the change! I really can’t see this as anything other than a money grabbing con and will be reporting it to Apple as such with the recommendation that all ratings before it became paid only are removed and even ask them to delete the app itself. This is a scam!

Now useless without “Premium”

Listen, if none of the meditation options on your formerly free app now work without a Premium subscription, you’re not charging for “premium access”—you’re just charging for access. I get keeping some stuff behind a paywall, but damn. Too bad.

Sad to see

I used to enjoy using just the timer functionality, separate from the courses. Now even that is behind a paywall.

I understand that you want to be compensated for your work but surely you could’ve seen that paywalling your existing content without providing anything else of value wasn’t the right way to do it.

I hope you’ll restore the original free functions of the app but I fear that it may be too late to reverse the negative review wave you’ve unleashed upon yourselves. I, for one, will not be keeping the app downloaded or holding my breath for any change.

Not working as advertised

As another reviewer said - you cannot progress along the 12 steps free program unless you pay now. And it’s not cheap. Why have you locked it like that ?

The one app that I could work with and it’s free!

I downloaded so many different fancy Meditation app and tried them out, but for some reason, this is the only one that was just simple enough and it worked and stuck with me so I am back

Used to be free

The app used to be free, now we have to pay $9.99 a month? I really liked it but come on

Lost their mission

I was encouraged to find an app/organization focused on helping people instead of making a buck (like TM), but early in my experience the app switched to full paywall for all features, and the subscription is way out of line for the value. Not sure who came up with the price but they are clearly not very experienced. Hopefully user backlash will remind 1GM of their original vision.

What a shame!!

I used to love this app.

It wasn’t flashy. The UI was a bit clunky. But that was part of the charm. It was simple, useful, and most importantly… free.

I recommended this app to so many people over the years because it just worked without trying to nickel-and-dime users every five minutes.

Now it feels like the original value proposition has completely changed. Features that made the app great are locked away, the experience feels bloated, and the simplicity that made it appealing is disappearing fast.

Really disappointing to see. I would have happily continued supporting and recommending it if it stayed true to what made people love it in the first place.

Deleting it today.

Like everything, it’s all about money

Got this meditation app four years ago. Thoroughly enjoyed it and found it super helpful. I even recommended it to people at work. Having not used it for a couple of months, logged in today to find I can only use it if I now subscribe. Absolutely disgusted, this goes against the mantra (literally) and point of the app which is to bring peace and harmony to one’s self. At £9.99 per month as well, that is shocking and a purely commoditised platform, shame on you. Poor show One Giant Mind, I hope others pull away from you too.

Deeply disappointed in new update

This used to be the app that was my rock. A streamlined, simple app dedicated solely to meditation - a timer, music or guidance if wanted, simple bell as ending, and little else. It felt like an app that supported what meditation is. Now we’re forced into paying - and I get that everyone needs financial support but $9.99 a month for a timer?? Meditation doesn’t need features and updates, it just needs to *be*… and that’s what used to be great about this app. I’d have paid a lower rate but cannot justify so much that I can do, albeit less happily, on my own

Very disappointing

Feels kind of gross that a once free app should suddenly switch to paid after many years. I wouldn’t mind paying if I knew my money was helping people who couldn’t afford access it, but no, they want everyone to pay loads for once free content.

Although it requires subscription it still rocks

I understand the complaints about the subscription but the app has been free for so many years. Because it has helped me so much I decided to buy lifetime subscription. The app is finally getting updates

Glitchy app for high price

I enjoyed this app when it was free, despite its regular glitches. Because it was free, I made due with the glitches. After many glitches, I made it through all the training and was enjoying daily use of the meditation timer. Then, without warning it locked me out with a high-priced paywall. Since the app always glitched out, I could not justify spending my hard earned money on it just for a timer with nice ambient music. They should have offered long-time users more affordable options. I am very disappointed because the meditation technique did work for me, but it’s just too expensive for an app that doesn’t work well.
