  • Amazing! The visualization and gamification incentives really work.

    Both my kids love Sparkly and so do I as a parent. This toothbrush and app were recommended to us by my daughter’s dental hygienist after a not-so-great cleaning. My then 6-year old daughter had always been compliant about brushing, but never brushed long enough or thoroughly enough until Sparkly provided a clear visualization of all the germs getting brushed away. In other words, she was trying, but not succeeding, until Sparkly helped pave the way.

    My 4-year old son, on the other hand, was simply resistant to having his teeth brushed until we got him a Sparkly like his sister (we still brush for him, following the cues). Gone were the daily battles! He loves feeding Sparkly and making her do tricks. He even reminded me one morning when I forgot, that Sparkly needed brushing!

    I really, really love Sparkly, and I say this as someone who is cognizant of the addictive gaming tricks used by the app: constant rewards, achievements, and that sort of thing. In this case, it’s being used for a good cause: I want my kids to get addicted to brushing their teeth. The app won’t entertain them forever, but I think the brushing habits will be lifelong.

  • So close, but there are better long term options for the time being.

    Can only be used on a single device, no way to download or transfer to a new device. If you have to delete or reinstall the app, they will lose everything they have earned.

    The reset button that removes the special paint they earned/used is in a really easy to press spot, several times our young kids have accidentally reset their “Sparkly” paint just after using it while handing off the device. Unfortunately very upsetting. Ideally the whole rewards/snacks section would be moved up top away from the app switcher area.

    I like that the brushing time gradually increases and I like the toothbrush itself. The sparkly is cute and the kids like tapping it to interact, getting rewards, using the spray cans (especially the graffiti one they got recently and unfortunately reset 10 seconds later), and feeding it snacks before brushing.

    They know they will lose everything in the app when we have to replace the iPad, which will be soon, so that will likely be the end of it. We will probably move back to the app we were using previously because it’s a better long term option, even though we liked this brush better.

  • Good but..

    My daughter has been using this app for the past month. She loves it! She loves interacting with the sparkly, food, accessories, the spray paint and the backgrounds! She has no longer been throwing tantrums or fits when I tell her to brush her teeth. Her breath also smells alot better than usual. For parents concerned about screen time, No worries! Children will usually play with sparkly for about one minute or so after they brush their teeth then they will give the phone/ipad back!

    I would like to make a suggestion. So when you click on the Sparkly, It does a trick. I would like there to be a setting where you can choose which tricks the Sparkly does. I came up with this because my daughter has unlocked all the tricks and when she shows me a new trick, It takes like 1-2 minutes to do the trick she wants and I'm kinda an impatient mother 😅
