Useless

Using with a Mag-Lev audio turntable, which takes time to reach its target speed. Before it can however. An ad appears over the speed readout! It’s all very well charging for Apps, but if you offer a free version, it should at least operate so it can be evaluated. As it is, it is pointless and I fail to see the value in upgrading.

Response from developer

Hello, thank you for your feedback, always useful. The trial does limit the duration of the test, and this may be too short for some turntables. I am still working on a good balance between being able to try all the features but still have an incentive to upgrade. I hope you stick with it, it is worth the upgrade😀 Cheers Phil

Inaccurate

Saw someone using it and decided to check this app today and the results were about ~2% off against other app I have installed and digital tachometer. Cool concept and interface, but poor technical results. Cannot recommend.

Response from developer

Hello, thank you for your feedback, sorry to hear you are not happy with the results. Unfortunately the app is only as accurate as the accuracy of the built in gyroscope, if you are getting such difference from a calibrated tool then it does point to an inaccurate gyroscope. If so then RPM has a solution for that, in settings you enter a calibration factor which then adjusts the rpm readings accordingly in real time from then on. It is also very important the the iPhone is placed absolutely flat over the centre of the platter. I hope that helps, let me know how you get on, of course I would like to improve that 1* rating😀 Phil

Fantastic, and accurate

For some reason I was having trouble calibrating my turn table with a strobe disc. I found this app and tried it out. To my surprise, it helped my accurately calibrate my turntable to the right rpm!

Very disappointed - Totally inaccurate

I thought this would be a great speed checker, but with my iPhone X it’s always wrong.
I have a strobe and a speed test record to set my HiEnd turntable up with. When I checked with this app it showed a speed of 33.5, rechecked with the test record and strobe and the TT speed was spot on.
I double checked it on my new Technics 1500c quartz locked direct drive turntable, which lives in my office. Again the app displayed the wrong speed. Checked with the strobe and test record which confirmed that this TT was spinning at exactly the correct speed.
So in conclusion this app is totally inaccurate, which as speed accuracy is it only function makes it completely pointless. . .

Hi Charlie, Thanks for the feedback, please contact me on philipbroder (@) gmail.com so we can over this in more detail to make sure you get the best out of RPM. Briefly, iPhone gyroscopes are generally very accurate, and rpm is only as accurate as the built in gyroscope. In your case with trusted strobe and test records then I would say this suggests there is an issue with your gyroscope. This is exactly why there is a calibration setting so you can correct the gyro so that future use of rpm is corrected in real time. For the numbers you mention you would use a calibration factor of 0.994 (33.3/33.5) Also, please be aware of RPMs other big feature which is the real time wow/flutter graph, while precise rpm is of course important it's the wow/flutter variation that is more audible to the ear, rpm is the only app which displays as an aid to helping you correct this. One final thing, please ensure that your iPhone is placed absolutely flat directly over the centre of the platter, if the spindle cannot be removed then use centre of a tape reel or similar to support it. I hope that helps, please get in touch. Cheers, Phil

Not clear that it’s a single trial

It seems that one test only can be carried out with the free app. Fair enough but this should be made explicit. Great concept but this aspect is very frustrating.

Won’t transfer

I paid for the upgrade on my iPad however it does not transfer this to my iPod.

Response from developer

I received your message on the contact form but you didn’t leave your email address. If you go to the Info screen and tap the Restore button it will apply any upgrades made with the same AppleID. Let me know how you get on.

Garbage software

Gives you around 3 seconds of testing before prompting you to upgrade. Barely enough time to find the adjustment pot with your screwdriver, let alone actually adjust the thing.

Upgrade don’t work

Paid three times for upgrades and it’s just frozen the screen. Useless app.

Response from developer

sorry you’re having trouble, this is most unusual, and is most likely a problem with the App Store itself. Sometimes the App Store doesn’t respond quick enough, if the purchase did go through you can go back to the Info screen and press the “Restore” button. You will never get charged twice by Apple, check your receipt emails. I hope that works, let me know how you get on.

Works well, but is obnoxious

May as well be a $13 app. You can only use it 10 times, and it’s constantly shoving the premium version down your throat. It’s not exactly inexpensive, and for that price you should just get turn tabulator.

Fine app, but wouldn’t download

Geddy Lee sounding like a chipmunk on Espresso?

I fixed it... slowed Rush down juuuust enough, thanks to your ap! Much appreciated! Excellent, simple ap that did prezactly what was needed!
